Mexican artist Miguel Covarrubias and Hungarian-American photographer Nickolas Muray were close friends and artistic collaborators who met in 1923, with their friendship significantly influencing the artistic scene of the 1920s-40s. Through this bond, Muray was introduced to the cultural elite of Mexico, including Frida Kahlo, with whom he had a romantic relationship that lasted a decade.
