[CUSTER, General George Armstrong (1839-1876), association]. Two Cartridges, Two Bullets, and One Button Used at the Battle of Little Big Horn. [N.p., ca. 1870s]. Both cartridges (45-70 shells) approximately 2" long; two .45 caliber bullets (?) approximately 1" long; button approximately ?" in diameter (the usual wear, oxidation, soiling). Very good. According to the six accompanying COAs or notes, these items were utilized at Little Big Horn (some COAs mention other artifacts, not included here). Excerpts from the various COA's: ?This 45-70 shell was taken from the Custer dead buy [sic] the Indian Warriors, and taken back to high ridges around Reno hill and fired back at Reno's men. Found in 1974 by Henry Weibert [?] Garryowen Mont." And: ?Dear Dick: The enclosed cartridge cases were obtained from surface survey work for a private landowner on a portion of the Custer fight area outside the NPS lands and not on Indian land. The Martin-bar-anvil-primed cartridge came (.50-70, the one with more pointed bullet) came from a minor fight site (Tillotson Fight) Sept. 1867 near a hay-cutting of the Army troops out of Fort Phil Kearny [photocopy]". And: ?From: George Scott / To: Richard Upton / Item # 1. 2-45-70's- Found just 10 North of Reno Benteen fence line-private property. Retreat from Weir Point to R. B. Property. 2. 1-45 Cart, Found South of Weir Pt. approx.. 200 yds., and 100 yards East of road. 2. 45 Cal? Found South of Weir Pt. approx. 200 yds., and about 50 yds West of Cedar Coulee?
