- Lot Description
Hand-painted tattoo flash sheet with hand colored red background by Lou Lewis (d. 1969), Bert Grimm’s, Long Beach, CA, ca. 1940s. Ink and watercolor on board. Flash sheet with eight classic sailor-era designs, in part popularized on Longbeach’s Pike and Longbeach’s Naval port, serving extensively in WWII and the Korean War. Designs include Sailor Jerry Hula Girl, Nude Pin Up, and two Sailor Jerry-era sparrows. Sheet includes ID numbers and pricing by “Good Luck” Ace’s design. Illustrated on p.117 of Vintage Tattoo Flash, Vol 1 by Jonathan Shaw.
