Escamoteur Figural Clock. European, nineteenth century. Highly detailed cast Spelter sculpture shows a mountebank playing a drum and cymbals with barbells at his feet, a "learned dog" at one side wearing a hat, and with the structure supporting an integrated clock behind him decoratd with instruments, leaves, and berries. The trapping of the magician's trade including a Ball Vase and Cups and Balls rest on the trestle table behind the performer. The open top of the drum may be used as a match holder. 9 3/4 x 4 x 12 1/2". A handsome and uncommon object.
Crack to base at rear, clock mechanism in need of service, else very good.
