Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1941. 8vo. 31 illustrations after black and white photographs after Walker Evans. Original publisher?s black cloth, spine lettered in silver foil (tiny puncture to upper joint); original unclipped dust jacket (spine panel sunned, light edge wear). FIRST EDITION, an important work of southern American literature. Agee collaborated to craft a fictionalized account of three families by incorporating Evans? powerful images that focused on impoverished sharecropping families in desolate areas around Alabama. REVIEW COPY with publisher?s slip laid in.
