Early gilt?lettered cloth (extreme ends worn, corners rubbed, marginal browning and offsetting to text). FIRST EDITION. ?Holden, a farm boy from New Hampshire, was aboard the whaleship Mentor when it was wrecked. Only about half the crew survived the wreck; they were ultimately captured by natives, who tattooed, starved, and mistreated their prisoners.
