Engraved portrait frontispieces with tissue guards in each volume, folding facsimile letter tipped?in Vol. 1, folding map and facsimile document in Vol. 2, numerous maps and wood engraving throughout. Deluxe publisher's full sheep, black and red leather spine labels gilt, all edges marbled, marbled endpapers (spines lightly sunned, corners gently rubbed). FIRST EDITION of Grant?s classic memoirs published by Samuel Langhorne Clemens (?Mark Twain?) who once gloriously stated that this is ?the best memoirs of any general?s since Caesar?. AN ATTRACTIVE SET IN A DELUXE BINDING.
