GRESHAM, William Lindsay (1909 - 1962). Monster Midway. New York: Rinehart & Co., 1953. First edition. 8vo. Cloth with color dust jacket (chipped spine, clipped and toning). The jacket protected with a removable Mylar cover. Tight clean copy. Very good.
An increasingly scarce book by the author of Nightmare Alley, this work includes chapters on nearly all aspects of carnival life. Gresham leanred how to eat fire in preparation for writing the book and was taught the art by Ricki Dunn (he of theatrical pickpocketing fame).
