Approximately 50 pieces, including both original correspondence and carbons, many annotated, including pre-publication research notes, contractual and editorial matters with the publisher. In addition to letters between Gibson and Young is correspondence between heads of institutions whose collections were visited during research for the work including New York Public Library, Library of Congress, and private collectors.
