HOUDINI, Harry (Erik Weisz, 1874 - 1926). Houdini Vanishing Elephant Hippodrome Program. New York, 1917. Souvenir program with color lithographed covers, and featuring Houdini in two spots on the program, with his Packing Box Escape and the Vanishing Elephant. 4to. Includes a full-page pictorial ad showing Houdini just before the performance of the box escape.
Though the Vanishing Elephant was a sensational feat that grabbed headlines and the imagination of theater goers, in reality the performance left something to be desired. As has often been reported, three or four men pushed the box on stage that the elephant entered before the vanish; ten or more pushed it off stage after the elephant was "gone."
Covers detached, small chips.
