HOWE, Julia Ward (1819?1910). Autograph quotation signed (?Julia Ward Howe?), 10 May 1899. One page (sight 70 x 114 mm). The first line of the final stanza from ?THE BATTLE HYMN OF THE REPUBLIC?: ?In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea?. [ALSO WITH:] an original cabinet card SIGNED BY HOWE. Together framed and matted, overall 406 x 330 mm. An important American poem that replaced ?John Brown?s Body? as the best?known Civil War song.
