Japanese Iki-Ningyo (Living Doll) of a Woman. Japan, late 19th/early 20th century. Amazingly lifelike bust of a woman, with glass eyes, real hair, and intricately painted eyelashes, eyebrows, lips, and ears. 11 x 5 x 5?. Retains the original wooden storage box. Small piece chipped from forehead; few stress cracks and abrasions. These figures were created for elaborate displays re-creating popular plays or historical events.
