Half?titles, 16 pp. publisher?s catalogue inserted at rear of Volume III instead of Volume I. Original publisher?s blue cloth recased with original backstrip laid down, pale yellow endpapers (spines darkened, dampstain to lower board of Volume III); together housed in a morocco clamshell box. Provenance: contemporary bookseller?s ticket of Charles Moat, Plymouth. FIRST EDITION of one of the bestselling books of the 19th century and the first novel published by Macmillan. FIRST ISSUE with the misspelling ?Burrow? for ?Burrough? on p. 7 of the publisher?s catalogue. Sadleir 1340.
