  LOCKHART, John Gibson (1784?1854). Ancient Spanish Ballads; Historical and Romantic. London: John Murray, 1842. Small 4to. Illustrated with 5 chromolithographs (foxed) including an attractive half-title, black & white engravings by William Allan, David Roberts, William Simson, Henry Warren, C.E. Aubrey, and William Harvey. Numerous vignettes, initials, and hand-colored textual borders by Owen Jones. Original gift book binding in full brown morocco stamped with a central gilt ornament framed inside a tooled floral border, spine in 6 compartments separated by raised bands elaborately tooled in gilt, dentelle turn-ins, all edges marbled, watered silk moir? endpapers (light shelf wear to fore edges, lengthy gift inscription to front flyleaf). One of the earliest and most attractive of Victorian color-plate gift books.
