Marble Vase/Jam Vase. After Martinka & Co., ca. 1885. Handsome turned boxwood vase with ebonized finial, holding a solid wooden ball. The sphere vanishes or appears in the vase on command. Height 4 5/8".
The name of this once-popular pocket trick is derived from the method that makes it work, and the fact that most models use a small marble instead of a wooden ball.
