MITCHELL, Samuel Augustus (1792?1868). Mitchell?s New General Atlas Containing Maps of the Various Countries of the World, Plans of Cities, etc. Philadelphia: S. Augustus Mitchell, 1874. Folio. 106 engraved hand?colored maps and plans on 72 leaves (several double?page). Original publisher?s half roan over blind?stamped cloth gilt, light purple endpapers (light rubbing to spine and corners, inner joints expertly reinforced). Later edition. Includes the first appearance of the large Kansas and Nebraska map, along with plans of Milwaukee and Detroit. Colorado et al map is shifted west. A HANDSOME COPY. Not in Phillips (only lists 1873); Rumsey P6187.
