NASON, Ben (1915-?). Boston / Join the Jubilee. [1950]. Offset lithograph poster. 21 7/16 x 14 ??. Linen backed. Small expertly restored loss at lower right corner; touched-up losses and repaired tears. B+. A rare poster; no copies have been traced at auction or institutionally. This poster advertises the 1950 Boston Jubilee, a five-day festival sponsored by the Boston Chamber of Commerce aimed at ?boosting? the city with pageantry, store sales, tours, concerts, and related events. The poster depicts a rocket ship in outer space, Shem Drowne?s famous grasshopper weathervane, and the Boston city seal. In the 1940s, Nason created a well-known series of posters for the New Haven Railroad, and all of Nason?s known poster work is concentrated to New England vacation and travel destinations.
