- Lot Description
NATHANIEL-WALKER, Inez (American, 1911-1990). Gable Nathaniel My Husband. Graphite and colored pencil on cardstock. Signature not visible. 11 x 8 ??. Frame (glass): 18 x 15?. Free sheet hinged. Good condition. Born into poverty in South Carolina, she eventually moved to Port Byron, NY to work in a factory. She was convicted of manslaughter for killing an abusive partner in 1971. In prison, she learned how to draw, and began her art career. She is one of the most prominent African-American Folk Artists.
