[NEWSPAPERS]. [PRE-REVOLUTIONARY WAR]. "The Twelve [sic] United Colonies by their Delegates in Congress to the Inhabitants of Great Britain / By Order of the Congress, John Hancock, President..." the "Olive Branch Petition" in Lloyd's Evening Post. August 18, 1775. [London: W. Nicoll, 1775]. 8 large 4to pages on 2 folding sheets. Each page approximately 11 1/2 x 8 1/2".
Paper toned, soiled, worn, some tearing, light chipping at folds, one vertical and one horizontal crease, small (tax?) inkstamp on final page. Good. The first two pages of this issue contain the text of the "Olive Branch Petition", the American colonies' final attempt to head off war with Great Britain, by stating grievances with their treatment by the British government, but still declaring their loyalty to the king. This is one of the earliest printed appearances of this important pre-Revolutionary War declaration in England.
