Rice, Grapefruit, and Checkers. Azusa: Owen Magic Supreme, ca. 1995. Oversized and finely made stage version of the classic transposition effect in which a quantity of dry grains of rice, a stack of oversize wooden checkers, and a bright grapefruit, change places on command, between a handsome turned wooden vase and two brightly decorated canisters. The gimmicked Rice Vase an outstanding example of Owen craftsmanship in lathe-turned hardwood; the canisters with matching segmented turned lids and stencil-painted designs in a variety of colors. Height of largest element 18?. Hallmarked. Vase toned, lacks wooden grapefruit.
