Twain, Mark. Roughing It. Hartford, CT: American Publishing Co., 1872. First American edition. Original brown pebbled cloth with vignette stamped in gilt, spine stamped and lettered in gilt, publisher?s monogram blind stamped to rear board. First issue points present (with capital T in trees and "thirteenth" on page 156; issue point B on page 242, both words lacking; Capital E in Eastern on page 330; ad present on page 592 (no priority). Double frontispiece with tissue guard. Illustrated profusely with wood engravings. 8vo. xvii, 591, [1] ad. Spine ends chipped; bands protruding, gilt rubbed free from spine, corners rubbed and bumped, spotting to boards, front flyleaf partially torn, interior toned at margins, hinges starting. BAL 3337.
