[SATIRE ? CIRCUS & ENTERTAINMENT]. MERRY, Tom (William McChem, 1853-1902). Collection of St. Stephen's Review Presentation Cartoons. 1887 ? 88. A group of 16 finely colored lithographed satirical political cartoons poking fun at British politicians and public figures of the era, most based on a theme of entertainment, circus, sideshow, or gambling (including Three Card Monte). The subjects are shown as weightlifters, on roller coasters, anthropomorphized as animals, or as Grimaldi or other clowns or puppets. Most 11 x 17", with marginal faults and old folds, or chips around the edges. A very good group.
