- Lot Description
[SOCIALISM].?Socialist Playing Cards.?Chicago: Charles H. Kerr & Co., 1908. 52 + J + title card + partial box (tattered). Each card bears a rhyme, and the courts bear satirical caricatures of capitalists and monopolists, judges, the military, and police. Pip cards bear rhymes on the struggles of various working-class occupations (miner, carpenter, farmer, baker, clerk, stenographer, and others) under the capitalist system. The deck offers some hope on the Aces, which bear rhymes on the ?trump" or triumph of the Socialist Party and the working class. Some ink transfer from backs to faces, a few minor bumps and tears, otherwise good. With a file of articles and stories related to the cards and their creation. Hochman P21. RARE.
