Frontispiece (second state, as called-for) and 6 plates of maps or diagrams. 2 volumes. 164; [1, ads], 199 pp. Nineteenth-century full paneled calf, boards ruled and stamped in gilt, spines ruled and tooled in gilt in compartments, five raised bands, burgundy and brown gilt morocco lettering labels on spines, gilt board edges and turn-ins, marbled endleaves.
Condition
One spine label on volume I is missing, joints worn, boards edgeworn, some soiling to boards, hinges starting, ffep. front blank, frontispiece and title-page of volume I are loose, text toned, somewhat soiled, foxed, plates quite toned). Good. STATED SECOND EDITION, WITH THE FIVE VERSES, FIRST APPEARING HERE. Although a stated "Second Edition," this is technically the fourth octavo edition; the five verses are attributed to Alexander Pope.
