TACITUS, Publius Cornelius; MURPHY, Arthur (?Charles Ranger?), translator. The Works of Cornelius Tacitus? With an Essay on the Life and Genius of Tacitus; Notes, Supplements, and Maps. London: G.G.J. and J. Robinson, 1793. 4 vols. 4to. FIRST MURPHY TRANSLATION. Four engraved folding maps after Robert de Vaugondy and a plan of Jerusalem (offsetting from plates to text with slight browning to maps). Period tree calf gilt framed, crimson morocco spine label gilt lettered, compartments gilt (joints tired with splitting, few abrasions to covers, backstrips dried with chipping, rubbed corners). Provenance: From the private library of a local Chicago collector, part one.
