First edition, first printing, original brown textured cloth, ruled in blind and titled in gilt along spine, t.e.g. All first issue points present (title page is dated 1863; p.125, line 3 ?whistled, saying? later changed to ?whistling, said?; p. 174, line 4, ?his only pastime?, later ?his sole diversion?; ads at rear with this title listed as ?nearly read.?). Frontispiece with tissue guard. 8vo. Edges rubbed, spine sunned, few pages bumped. BAL 12136.
