THACKERAY, William Makepeace (1811?1863). The History of the Pendennis. London: Bradbury and Evans, 1849?50. 2 volumes in one, 8vo. Engraved titles, 46 steel?engraved plates, numerous illustrations in?text. (Some spotting to plates). Modern red morocco gilt, all edges marbled. FIRST EDITION IN BOOK FORM, originally published serially in 23 parts between 1848 and 1850. ?? [With:] TAYLOR, Theodore. Thackeray: The Humorist and the Man of Letters. New York: D. Appleton and Company, 1864. 8vo. Engraved frontispiece, facsimile letter, several in?text woodcuts. (Facsimile browned, some spotting). Original green cloth gilt (head worn). FIRST EDITION, and the first book appearance of Trollope?s sketch.
