[THE AMERICAS]. [COLUMBUS, Christopher (1541-1506), subject]. STIGLIANI, Tommaso (1573-1651). Il Mondo Nuovo. Rome: Giacomo Mascardi, 1628. 32mo. Title-page with the famous woodcut map of the Western Hemisphere, including the Americas. 1011, [1, blank], [32, Tavola] pp. This copy lacks pp. 5-8, although they do not seem to have been removed (rather this copy seems to have been bound without them) ? this pagination matches one of the copies at the Library of Congress (photocopies of the missing pages are laid-in). Bound in contemporary full vellum over boards, ink titles to spine (some rubbing, toning, soiling to binding, small worm-hole on front board, the first two leaves are reinforced at the versos at the fore-edges (little to no loss of text on the second leaf), some toning, foxing, occasional soiling in text). Fine. SECOND (FIRST COMPLETE) EDITION OF THIS LONG-FORM POEM ABOUT THE DISCOVERY OF AMERICA BY COLUMBUS. This long poem adds certain romantic elements, including love stories, magicians, demons, etc. in the tradition of Italian romances. Sabin 91729.
