[ROBERT-HOUDIN] Theatre Robert-Houdin Coffee Vase. Circa 1880s. Brass vase transforms cotton or cloth into steaming hot coffee as if by magic. Spring loaded base and gimmicked finial that turns three internal catches to hold back inner container, and uncommonly encountered mechanism for this prop. Height 10 1/4".
Minor rubbing to finish; very good.
Said to be from the Theatre Robert-Houdin, and later the collection of Professor Charles Emile Sauty ("Professor Rex," 1900 - 67), a Swiss-French composer, artist, and magician.
