[HOUDINI - SPIRIT PHOTOGRAPHY] PENLAKE, Richard. Trick Photography. London: Marshall, Brookes & Chalkley, Limited, 1906. Red pictorial wrappers. Illustrated with diagrams and photographs. 8vo. Bookplate of Edwin Dawes. Spine taped, pages and wraps chipped. Fair. With a letter laid in from Alex De Vega returning the book to its former owner. It was De Vegas who assisted Houdini's investigations into fraudulent spirit photographer William Hope in 1921. The laid-in letter states, in part, "Here is [your] book. ... If it is not intruding; I would like to ... be there at some of the spirit photography tests." The booklet explains many photographic effects, including how to make "ghosts" appear on film.
