VERNON, Dai (David Frederick Winfield Verner). Silhouette of Billy McComb by Dai Vernon. Circa 1970. Scissor-cut silhouette of the great Irish comedy magician in bowtie and smoking a pipe, cut by his peer and friend, the famed sleight-of-hand artist and Magic Castle icon. In a vintage Magic Castle envelope bearing McComb?s handwritten note, ?Silhouette Cut by Dai Vernon.? Together with the original COA from the McComb Legacy auction. An unusual form of silhouette by Vernon; most of his output took a traditional form of a portrait in profile, typically mounted to a stiff white card. This is the first example we have encountered with its own integral border.
