[VOYAGES AND TRAVELS]. YULE, Captain Henry (1820-1889). A Narrative of the Mission Sent by the Governor-General of India to the Court of Ava in 1855... London: Smith, Elder, 1858. 4to. Illustrated with 29 plates (including a full-page map) and 1 folding map laid-in. 391, [16, ads] pp. Bound in modern full brown calf, boards paneled in blind, spine ruled in blind and ruled and lettered in gilt in compartments, five raised bands, all edges gilt.
Condition
Some rubbing, light soiling and a few scratches to binding, hinges reinforced, text toned with occasional foxing, soiling, a few marginal tears to a few plates or text pages. Very good. FIRST EDITION. Eighteen months after the end of the Burmese War, the King of Ava sent a mission to England and a return mission was promised. Yule was the secretary to the mission leader. On Yule's return, this exhaustive description of the entire lengthy trip to Burma was published.
