Publisher's light gray cloth, front board and spine lettered in green, publisher's unclipped (?$2.00") dust jacket (cloth rubbed, soiled, some soiling to endleaves and edges of text block; jacket worn, soiled, chipped, torn). Good. FIRST EDITION IN THE UNCOMMON JACKET. And: Another copy. London: Neville Spearman, [1954]. 8vo. Publisher's full textured red boards, spine lettered in white, publisher's unclipped (?9s. 6d. net") dust jacket (some rubbing to binding, some offsetting to endleaves; jacket toned, soiled, with some light edgewear). Very good. FIRST ENGLISH EDITION. This satirical novel is a modernized version of Candide, with the title character and his loved ones suffering terrible injuries, yet he stubbornly remains optimistic. Even in death, his name is used for exploitation.
