Sign on plywood. 36 x 12". worn, soiled, several nails, holes, etc., text on front worn, text on reverse side faded, worn, soiled, upper and lower margins of sign trimmed close with minor text loss. Good. A historically important sign for the first drug store in the Dells' area, opened by Dr. George W. Jenkins, one of the earliest pioneers of the area. Jenkins was one of the co-founders of Newport, WI, and was one of the first medical professionals in the area. He moved his family from Newport to Kilbourn in 1862. He provided medical and pharmaceutical services for decades, and the drug store operated for nearly 50 years.
