[WOODCUTS]. LIVIUS, Titus. Dat is de Roemsche historie oft Gesten ("That is the Roman History, or Deeds"). Antwerp: Jan Graphaeus, 1541. Fol. Illustrated with numerous woodcuts from the earlier German Schöffer edition. Full calf with gilt-stamped spine in 7 sections. The first Dutch translation of Livy's Ab Urbe Condita reproducing some 230 woodcuts (many repeated), demonstrating the prowess of Flemish Renaissance printing. Selected illustrations are held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Harvard Art Museums, and more. Pettegree 19427; Smith 240.
Rubbed and scuffed. Corners bumped and exposed; substantial cracking to leather; spine skewed and separating at front joint. Extremities chipped. Soiling and spotting. Damp stains and discoloration, sometimes affecting text. Small worm holes at inner margin. Ownership markings. Small bookplate upper ffep and two circular "College St Michel" stamps at bottom of title page in blue and black. Missing title-page with frontispiece. Good.
