WRIGHT, Charles Hubbard (1870?1939). The May Century. 1897. Poster for the May, 1897 issue of Century monthly magazine. The feature article covers ?scientific kite-flying,? and Wright?s illustration depicts Lt. Hugh D. Wise lifted by a kite apparatus above Governors Island. In an early aviation milestone, Wise was the first American to be lifted airborne by a kite. 20 5/8 x 11 ??. Linen backed. Few tiny nicks at edges; light skinning in margins. A-.
