Publisher?s second state binding in full dark grey cloth, spine stamped in black and gilt, top edge dyed blue, original later issue jacket with illustration artwork on front panel (ends chipped, spine panel lightly marred along joints, previous owner bookplate to front pastedown; a tight and clean copy). The book that propelled Wright to be considered the leading Black author in the United States and the major voice of African American modernism.
