[2, blank], [x], [1]-337, [3, blank] pp. Publisher?s red cloth backstrip over black boards, front board stamped in blind, spine lettered in gilt, publisher?s unclipped (?$4.75?) dust jacket (binding soiled at lower edge, text and edge of text block foxed, ownership signature on ffep; jacket spine toned, headcap chipped, jacket panels toned, soiled, occasionally scuffed, and a few short marginal tears). Good. FIRST EDITION OF THE AUTHOR?S FIRST NOVEL. In 2005, Time Magazine named this book as one of the best English language novels from 1923 to the present; it was the basis of the film of the same name (2008) directed by Sam Mendes and starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet.
