Alexander Portnoff Signed Plastic Drawing of Man, Woman, Child. This is a rare drawing, in red conte on black paper, by Alexander Portnoff (American, 1887-1949), sculptor, painter, and teacher who was born in the Russian Federation but made Philadelphia, Pennsylvania his home. Portnoff, a colleague and friend of Rodin, was known for his sculptural work, which included war memorials and figural subjects like Sholem Aleichem, John Dewey, Leo Tolstoy, and W.E.B. Du Bois. Signed lower right and dated 1918, with National Academy of Design label on back.
Dimensions are 27 in h x 21 in w x .75 in d. Condition is fair, with water damage to matte at lower right, and worn frame edges. Drawing appears intact underneath but has not been inspected out of frame. Please call or email for a detailed condition report.
