A Black Forest monkey with lever mechanism and English nutcrackers, including a monkey, and two owls, all with glass eyes, all 19th c., along with a carving topped by a Hoffmanesque head with hinged jaw, early 18th c.
Hoffmanesque head: 9"
All original condition, including glass eyes. Monkey nutcracker unusual, as well as quite good. The piece we are describing as “Hoffmanesque” is not a nutcracker, as it has no lever, though it is very similar and we think equal in quality to the nutcracker featured in Pinto’s book and both are 18th c. We have speculated that it may be an unfinished nutcracker. The mouth is articulated.
