The Museum of American Folk Art’s Encyclopedia of Twentieth-Century American Folk Art and Artists states: “Kathy Jakobsen is regarded as one of the best landscape folk painters of the century.” Originally from Michigan, where her work was sold at the Henry Ford Museum gift shop, she was sought out by Robert Bishop, at that time a curator. He became her mentor (as well as the Director of the Museum of American Folk Art in New York). Jakobsen also credits her commercial success to longtime friend Jay Johnson, who founded America's Folk Heritage Gallery in New York, where her work was shown for 10 years. Today her paintings are in the collections of the Museum of American Folk Art, New York, NY; Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, D.C.; and the Henry Ford Museum, Detroit, MI.
