Dr. Erwin James Eldridge (1833-1902) was a surgeon with 16th Georgia Infantry Regiment, and then Cobb's Legion, serving in Virginia and then in Atlanta and Macon, Georgia, during the Civil War. Datelined, Atlanta, December 29, 1863, 1pp. Written on Head Quarters Georgia State Guard letter head, in part “I met a gentleman going to England on some business of one of the banks here and he politely offered to take any letters there for me. I write to tell you if you want Via. Of England, to write to any of your relatives there or others of that if you will write by Mail, I will get him to carry the letters. ...â€
