Dr. Erwin James Eldridge (1833-1902) was a surgeon with 16th Georgia Infantry Regiment, and then Cobb's Legion, serving in Virginia and then in Atlanta and Macon, Georgia, during the Civil War. Datelined Fredericksburg, Hdqrt.s Gen’l T.R.R. Cobb Brgd., November 23, 1862 2pp. with original cover. In part, “We are on the south side of the river about two miles from Fredricksburg and just opposite of us is the Yankee army in full sight. We see each other very easily and with a flash can distinguish persons very distinctly. ... Direct here after, E. J.E. Brigade Surgeon Gent. Cobbs Brigade Gent. McLann's Division Richmond, Va. There is an officer there whose business it is to forward all letters.
