Negroes are uncommonly high, consequently the planters have no great incentive to sell while they see the consumption of cotton going up so rapidly, or should I say increasing ... cotton at present prices is cheap & taking the prices of Negroes into consideration, don’t pay 81/2 dollars per bale ...†In a different hand, are interesting comments on the reverse. “I bet Father, he is itching to buy cotton in Liverpool as he is going to Cuba day after tomorrow ....
