A complete and authentic issue of the Baltimore Patriot Evening Advertiser, April 19, 1814, 4pp., disbound, minor repaired edge tears, VG. Appearing on the back page are FIVE rarely seen advertisements issued by Isaiah Green, Gaoler of the Baltimore County Jail. Each advertisement names and describes a suspected runaway slave. As example under the headline, "Was Committed" ..."a runaway on January 2, 1814, a Negro man named JAMES ... who says he is free and was set free by Thomas Craig near Hillsboro Ohio ..." and continued with a description of the man and his clothing. The ad closes with "The owner is desired to come and take away said Negro, otherwise he will be sold for his Goal fees." Also listed is a "Was Committed ... a Negro Woman by the name of GRACE WILSON who says she is free ... about twenty years old .... The owner is desired to come and take away said Negro, otherwise he will be sold for his Goal fees." In addition to these Runaway Captures, there are two runaway Reward ads, one for "$50 for a likely Negro Boy named Sandy ...," with full description ... and a second "$80 Reward negro man named James ..."
