Union Prisoner one page letter, written by Jacob S. Devine who enlisted 8/9/1861 into H Company, PA 71st Infantry. Jacob is listed as POW July 3, 1863 Gettysburg. Confined July 8, 1863 Libby Prison. Mustered out March 21, 1865. Datelined: Libby Prison, Richmond VA., Nov. 27, 1863, to Bro. In part, “I was surprised not getting a box ..I hope you will not make any delay in the future ... You may send me a box about Dec. 10th and I will get it about Christmas. .. The old grey coat of yours will do ... You may send in this box 2lbs of coffee, 2lbs Tea, 10lbs sugar, 4lbs candles, 1 pack cards ... crackers, more soap ... a diary book for 1864 ...
