Bekwith West, 48th Virginia, Fort Delaware, July 10, 1862†on the front fly. Titled, “Journal of Alfred Ely, A Prisoner of War in Richmondâ€, Edited by Charles Lanman, New York, D. Appleton & Co., publishers, 443 & 445 Broadway, 1862. Illustrated with a steel plate portrait of Alfred Ely, and a wood engraving of the prision at Richmond. This work gives a minute account of the adventures in Virginia of the Hon. Alfred Ely, member of Congress from New York, who was captured at the Battle of Bull Run, and confined at Richmond for more than five months as a prisoner of war. The book lacks the binding strap, boards present but heavily stained.
