Gates Phillips Thruston (1835-1912) was an American lawyer and businessman. Born in Ohio, he served in the Union Army during the American Civil War and started a legal practice in Nashville, Tennessee in the reconstruction era. On 8/17/1861, he was commissioned into "C" Co. Ohio 1st Infantry. He was then commissioned into "C" Co. Ohio 1st Infantry, On 9/4/1863. Reached Brig-General 3/13/1865 by Brevet.Group of three post war letters, each signed “G.P. gates†and written from Nashville Tennessee.
