• Lot Description
  This artwork is from the Router Paintings series, in which Hudson uses a router to carve lines into the surface of the painted panels to form images of land, sky, and portals. By employing the unusual technique of drawing with a router he draws attention to the physicality of each painting. This unique triptych was created specifically for this auction. “Many of the router paintings depict an open doorway. This is an invitation to cross a threshold; a right of passage. I think about the Torii, the gate at the entrances of Japanese shrines. The Torii marks the transition from the mundane to the sacred. You are changed as you enter.” — Sean Hudson
