(2) Antique Chinese Blue and White Porcelain Plates. Pair of porcelain plates, hand painted plates with cobalt on white floral and geometric imagery, Marked by base. with red wax export seal. Smaller plate with Chinese label attached.
Size: 1 1/4 x 7 in.
Chinese blue and white porcelain, originating during the Tang dynasty but reaching its height in the Yuan and Ming periods, is celebrated for its striking cobalt-blue designs painted on a white porcelain body. Artisans used finely ground cobalt pigment to create intricate patterns—ranging from floral and geometric motifs to scenes of mythology, landscape, and daily life—before glazing and firing the pieces at high temperatures to achieve a vivid, durable contrast. These wares were highly prized both domestically and abroad, fueling extensive trade along the Silk Road and later maritime routes. Renowned for its technical mastery, elegance, and artistic versatility, blue and white porcelain remains one of China’s most iconic contributions to global ceramic art and a symbol of cultural sophistication and craftsmanship.
